Apesar de algumas categorias já estarem praticamente definidas, não é bom descartar as surpresas habituais e elas poderão acontecer em Melhor Atriz (já que muita gente ainda acredita na indefinição entre os nomes de Julie Christie e Marion Cotillard – podendo sobrar até para Ellen Page), Melhor Atriz Coadjuvante (em que todas as indicadas possuem chances de vencer), Melhor Direção (uma teoria apareceu nos últimos dias em que Paul Thomas Anderson sairia vencedor, já que os irmãos Joel e Ethan Coen levarão Oscars como editores e roteiristas de “No Country for Old Men”) e Melhor Filme (o nome de “Juno” tem sido bastante citado e “Michael Clayton” possui um apoio enorme dentre os votantes da Academia).
