Nos últimos anos, a premiação mais importante da indústria cinematográfica vinha enfrentando dois grandes desafios: o primeiro, atrair uma audiência maior para o show de premiação; e a segunda, reencontrar uma maneira de se conectar novamente com o público, indicando filmes que foram grandes sucesso, não só de crítica, mas, principalmente, de bilheteria.

A julgar pela lista de indicados ao 88th Annual Academy Awards, que foi anunciada hoje de manhã pela presidente da Academia de Artes e Ciências Cinematográficas, Cheryl Boone Isaacs, pelo ator John Krasinski e pelos diretores Ang Lee e Guillermo del Toro, o segundo desafio foi vencido. Dos 41 filmes que receberam indicações ao Oscar 2016, boa parte deles foi um grande sucesso de bilheteria, como o líder de indicações The Revenant, Star Wars: O Despertar da Força, Divertida Mente, Perdido em Marte, Cinderela, 007 contra Spectre, 50 Tons de Cinza, Straight Outta Compton, Mad Max: Estrada da Fúria e Creed – Nascido para Lutar.

É certo também dizer que esta é a temporada de premiações mais equilibrada dos últimos tempos. O Oscar 2016 chega com 4 filmes com boas chances de vencer o Oscar de Melhor Filme (A Grande Aposta, Mad Max: Estrada da Fúria, The Revenant e Spotlight: Segredos Revelados), com uma categoria completamente aberta de Melhor Ator Coadjuvante e Melhor Diretor (ainda mais com a ausência de Ridley Scott entre os cinco indicados) e com uma dúvida ainda na categoria de Melhor Atriz Coadjuvante (em que, apesar de fortalecida pela recente vitória no Globo de Ouro, Kate Winslet vê a possibilidade de vencer o Oscar ser monopolizada entre as jovens Alicia Vikander e Rooney Mara).
